An early Christmas present for Milly was a trip to Sydney to see the musical Moulin Rouge, and what a weekend experience it turned out to be.
It all started with the train trip and our fellow commuters, who were all headed to Sydney to attend a "freedom" rally. Freedom from what? It turns out they were all anti-vaxxers. I'm not against people who are anti-vax because they want to be cautious or it goes against their religion. It's the anti-vaxxers who believe there are micro-chips in the vaccine for the purpose of enslavement, the conspiracy theorists - it's these nutters who seriously do my head in - and it was these nutters who filled our carriage and we had to endure on our train trip. It was two hours of being hell.
Once we were out of purgatory, we headed to our hotel.
There is no trip to Sydney without a stop by Gelato Messina for some serious gelato flavours. We then walked to the Rocks area and Milly got to browse the famous Rocks Markets. We then stopped at The Tea Cosy cafe for some tea and scones. This was a Nanoo bucket list experience. Each table has a basket of knitting wool and needles and you can knit while enjoying your tea.
With our tummies full of gelato, tea and scones, we walked around the city taking in the festive decorations and browsing a shop or two. Then it was back to the hotel to start getting ready for our big night out.
I don't even know where to start on my review of Moulin Rouge the Musical, other than it was incredible. I wasn't a big fan of the movie but the musical was stunning in its set design and costumes, amazing performances, the music had all been updated to include mash ups of more modern day songs, it truly was a wonderful experience.
Some quotes from Milly after we were seated and before the show commenced included, "My eyes have never seen anything this beautiful", "I don't want it to start because I don't want it to end".
A truly memorable night.
The next morning before heading home on the train we had breakfast with my brother and his family at a gorgeous restaurant called The Grounds of the City. Beautiful interiors, much like a Parisian bistro. COVID dining rules restricted us to 1hr 15mins limit, which was difficult as we wanted to chat and have a decent catch up over a leisurely breakfast. The service was very efficient. Food very good.
Then we did a final shop before getting the train home. This time picking a quiet carriage.... and thank goodness, not a nutter in sight.
