Some randoms

Not even the pantry is safe from Buster.

Henry and Buster playing lightsabers. Buster is pretty good at wielding a sword.

Milly had styled her own hair for the day. I think she is channelling Cyndi Lauper.

Future football star

Henry has joined a local Under 6 football team. There are a couple of kids from his class and school in his team. They don't officially start playing competitive football until the end of April, but training has started so he and the team can learn some basic skills and have some fun. They train once a week after school and a couple of trial games have been organised for them to play in the lead up to the start of the season. These photos are from the first training session.

Preschool

Henry wasn't the only one to move on to a new stage in his life. Miss Milly also had new beginnings. She started preschool.

She attends preschool two days a week and is loving it. She has made some friends she can claim as her own, and there is one little girl in particular called Annika, that she adores and adores her back. Her teachers/carers tell me she is "very busy" at preschool, throwing herself into all activities with gusto. Her favourite is drawing and craft, and each day she comes home with no less than six drawings, two paintings and two or three craft pieces. This doesn't include the drawings she does and gives to her little group of friends as presents.

We are so happy for her that she enjoys preschool so much and is making friends.

Buster - Bam Bam

Every now and then we refer to Buster as Bam Bam. Just like Bam Bam, he's a child who doesn't know his own strength and often misuses it. Buster easily pushes pieces of heavy furniture around the house, can lift dense rocks, has a lot of power when he kicks or hits, and recently pushed open one of those heavy fire doors that I find hard to open. He continually surprises us with things he does that require brute strength and force. We hope as he grows he uses these powers for good and not evil.

Awards

We are so proud of Henry. He has really embraced school life and we haven't had one day yet where he's not wanted to go to school.

Twice a week I help out with his class, helping with sounds and reading. I really enjoy doing it. It's a great chance to meet all the other kids in his class and meet some of the other mums as well. I get to spy on him in class and get a sense of where his learning is compared to the other kids in the class. I know he loves me doing it too. It's a special time for us and he loves showing me what he's doing in class. Which is funny because once he's home, he won't discuss what he got up to a school at all.

Henry's school have a merit card system. The students are awarded little yellow Merit Award cards at the discretion of their teacher for good behaviour, helping in class, good work, and good manners. In addition, at their infants assembly four students from each class are selected for a Student Achievement Award and get their names printed in the school newsletter. Collect five Student Achievement Awards and you receive a Principal's Award which is presented by the Principal at the whole school assembly.

In his first week of school Henry received a Merit Card, and he was then selected as one of the first four students from his class to receive a Student Achievement Award. Since these photos were taken he has also received another Merit Award and was one of many kids brought up in front of the whole school assembly to receive a certificate for meeting the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge.

So are we proud? Absolutely!
