The day started for me at 5.00am when Henry came into our bed. He couldn't sleep because he was excited it was Buster's birthday. I was fully expecting him to wake Buster up as well, but thankfully no. I tried to get back to sleep but couldn't - neither could Henry.
The birthday boy was the next to wake and came into our room at around 6.30am. His first words of the day were "Is it my birthday today mama?". We told him he couldn't open any presents because Milly was still asleep. Buster decided he would play her some music to wake her up. He grabbed a toy musical instrument, went into her room and started making some noise. Hey presto! Milly was awake. Had it not been his birthday, I'm sure Milly would not have been so pleased.
Power Rangers and Lego Ninjago. If it's not ninja related and/or a weapon, it's just not Buster's thing. |
Assembling some Lego. |
Buster set about opening his presents and after each one would ask "Is it mine?". Henry was keen to put together anything that needed assembling and was very helpful. Then it was time for breakfast and to get Henry and Milly off to school and preschool.
It was lovely to spend the day with Buster, just the three of us (Michael was working from home). We played, chatted, read stories, cuddled, I put together some more Lego, and then it was time to start work on decorating his cake.
Buster had always been clear that he wanted a red Lego Ninjago birthday cake. No problem I said. I did a little online research and found a few examples. I bought all the icing, rolled it all out, everything was ready to be assembled on the day.... and then Buster said he wanted a green one instead. Aaarrggghhhh!!!!! It just wasn't going to happen. The red Ninjago and the red Power Ranger are Buster's favourites. I was sticking with red. He had a little tantrum about it, but by the time it was his birthday and I was decorating his cake he had forgotten all about it and was excited with his red cake. Phew.
I then realised how I wanted the day to end. I wanted to cuddle up to Buster and have him fall asleep in my arms, just as he did when he was a newborn. But when it came to bedtime, he had jumped into Henry's bed and they were having a little play and snuggle together. Their giggling was infectious, so I kissed them both goodnight and left them to it. It wasn't long before all was quiet in the house. I crept back into their room and found them asleep together. I was totally jealous, but couldn't deny their peaceful moment together.
Our sleeping boys, arms entwined. |
When I woke up the next morning Buster was sleeping beside me in my bed. Turns out he had awoke during the night and when Michael went in to see him all he wanted was cuddles with mama. Michael told me when he placed Buster in our bed he wriggled his way across until he was snuggled against my back. Turns out the day ended just perfectly.

aahhh what a lovely day. Such precious times. I am savouring every second of child caring my three grandchildren, as the moments are gone in a flash. My favourite moments just now are when Isaac and Riley greet each other on my childminding days. 20months and 16 months tight hugging with a tiny kiss on the cheek for isaac from Riley ( Isaac hasn't mastered the technique of puckering up yet). Also when feeding Millie and Isaac comes over to love her. Extremely affectionate but I am also aware that I am saving her life as I have to afford her some protection from the Isaac grip. Also when Isaac and Riley have nap time, which ever one goes first, the other one put s him to bed, gives him his Whinnie the Pooh bear, more hugging and kissing and dramatic words spoken of Bye Bye and much waving. Finally when they wake up from their nap, they are so elated to see each other that the hugging starts all over again. Just the most gorgeous thing. Thank you for sharing all of your moments Tiff.
