Turning one, so what does it mean?

Now that Buster is one, what are his achievements to date? He can sit up on his own and he can crawl. He has two teeth down the bottom with his top two just starting to poke through (he's not a fan of the teething process). He likes to position himself at Henry and Milly's table while they eat and beg for scraps or try and take their food from them.

He is making lots of sounds but no proper words yet. He loves to blow raspberries, especially when I'm encouraging him to say "mama". He can now pull himself up to standing and when he does he reaches for anything within his grasp. Once required item has been selected, Buster will then throw it to the floor to free his hand up to reach for another item which he will then throw to the floor. The whole process is repeated until there is nothing left to throw on the floor, at which time he then picks each item up and replaces it and then throws everything on the floor again.

Now that he is moving he is determined to get to places he knows he shouldn't. He loves making a dash for the fireplace and playing with the coal, covering himself and the floor in black soot. Any open door he sees as an invitation to wedge himself behind and shut everyone else out. Any drawer or cupboard he spots open is an invitation to explore and pull everything out. And the stairs, oh yes, the stairs are a his new joy.

He is such a determined little lad that I'm sure it won't be long until he writes his first formula or solves some incredible maths problem.

Until then he simply wants to help around the house and play with whatever Henry and Milly are playing with at the time.

And on the days Henry is at preschool Buster doesn't have to beg at the table. He's given Henry's chair to sit in and he happily has morning tea and lunch dates with big sister Milly. It won't be long before he's out of his highchair and have his own chair at the table with H&M.

Buster's first party

B-Boy Buster Boo has turned one and we held a little family gathering to celebrate. It all started for Buster when he woke from his morning nap to discover a house full of extra people. At first he was a little overwhelmed, but some snuggle time with his Dad saw him smiling again.

We held the party at our house and it was a wonderful sunny day, but it was also incredibly hot and humid. Just as well we had plenty of cold drinks to keep us chilled. Buster at times was still a little concerned with why everyone was there.

Henry and Milly are well seasoned party goers, so were in their element with all the extra attention and visitors. They love their little brother and delighted in sharing his presents with him.

Then it was time for the cake and a bit of a sing song. Poor Buster still didn't really know what was going on and wasn't that interested in tasting his first cake. He was pleased enough when he could get his shirt off and cool down a bit. Even more pleased when we let him crawl about and he found the ice bucket full of beer and wine, plus a few other plastic things he threw in for cooling off.

Later in the day he got to open some presents (well, he got to watch Henry and Milly open his presents) and have a little play with his cousin Casper.

When everyone had gone it was "night night" time for our exhausted Buster to dream of parties to come.

A special thank you to all family who made the trip for Buster's birthday.

Here, there, and everywhere

Big school here we come

It was a big week for Henry this week. He had the first of his kindergarten orientation days and me and Michael got to learn more about the school he will be starting at next year and what we need to do. The most exciting part for Henry has been the purchasing of the school uniform. The school has four uniforms: summer, winter, sport and formal. He is especially proud of the school tie and says he wants to wear it everyday.

Henry has another orientation day this week. He and a number of other new students will sit with the current kindergarten classes for their morning lessons. He officially starts school on Wednesday, 2 February 2011.
